Where do we go From Here?
As Blacks, we still discount and discredit our heritage, and beliefs in order to assimilate into a culture that will never accept us. Every day we unknowingly camouflage our true thoughts , feeling and desires. Doing this, perpetuates the never-ending, yet unconcious mental slavery in which this white society controls us. It can end, enlightenment and the quest for knowledge of ourselves, are the best ways to prevent it from happening further, and to our future generations. I don't want to perform the same song and dance my parents, their parents, and their parents perform everyday. Many lose themselves in their personal pursuit of the "American Dream", which is normal but shouldn't we have our own dream? Surely we can accomplish our goals without compromising any part of ourselves or our history. Will we as black people continue to wallow in our struggle, or will we rise to the ocassion and celebrate our progress? We should start by living OUR dreams and creating our own paths, rather than follow our white counterpart's. Our static advancement is a direct correlation our static position as Americans. Now is the time for action, not blame. "The Man" can not be our excuse for failure, when we ambiguously give up on ourselves.
